Board Of Environmental Sustainability Trust
We don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children. Let’s conserve it
At the Board of Environmental Sustainability Trust (BEST), we are committed to “Transforming the World” by addressing one of the most pressing environmental issues: single-use plastics. Our Single Use Plastic Ban Campaign is an all-encompassing initiative aimed at eliminating the usage of single-use plastics through education, innovation, and community action.
Single-use plastics, including straws, bags, bottles, and packaging, are designed for one-time use. While convenient, they have severe environmental consequences:
Environmental Pollution: Plastics take hundreds of years to decompose, causing significant pollution to land and water.
Marine Impact: Over 8 million tons of plastic enter oceans annually, threatening marine life and ecosystems.
Health Hazards: Plastics release toxic chemicals, affecting human health and the environment.
Resource Depletion: Plastic production relies on non-renewable resources like petroleum, contributing to climate change.
The Single Use Plastic Ban Campaign is dedicated to:
Reduce Plastic Consumption: Minimize the demand for single-use plastics through education and behavior change.
Promote Sustainable Alternatives: Support the adoption of innovative, sustainable products and solutions.
Engage Communities: Foster grassroots movements to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Policy Support: Advocate for and support government policies and regulations to ban single-use plastics.
Educational Workshops: Conducting workshops in schools, colleges, and communities to raise awareness about the impact of plastics and sustainable alternatives.
Clean-Up Drives: Organizing local clean-up events to remove plastics from beaches, rivers, and public spaces.
Alternative Solutions Showcase: Partnering with businesses to showcase and promote alternatives to single-use plastics.
Advocacy and Policy Dialogues: Collaborating with policymakers to implement bans and incentives for reducing plastic use.
Social Media Campaigns: Using digital platforms to spread awareness, share success stories, and encourage participation.
The campaign aligns with global efforts such as the United Nations Environment Programme’s “Beat Plastic Pollution” initiative. It also contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Encouraging sustainable consumption patterns.
SDG 14 (Life Below Water): Protecting marine ecosystems by reducing plastic waste.
SDG 13 (Climate Action): Addressing the climate impact of plastic production and disposal.
